Audio Programmer - Central Team

Guildford, UK, Permanent

Ref: PROG2201001

With a passion to deliver high-end cinematic games, Supermassive Games is carving a unique and exciting path in the games industry. Want to join us on the journey?

The role:

Working as part of the central audio team you will contribute to multiple projects in development at Supermassive Games. Your responsibilities will include:

  • Using in depth knowledge of Unreal Engine and Wwise to design, implement, and maintain audio tools, systems and pipelines.
  • Collaborating with sound designers to help realise their creative vision by creating bespoke tools as well as offering support and advice when existing tools can be leveraged to a new situation.
  • Working closely with other disciplines to achieve the highest quality player experience possible.
  • Producing code that is based on high standards of readability, reliability and maintainability.

What we're looking for:

  • Expert in C++ - you’ve got strong experience in C++, and have contributed to shipped games on PC, console or mobile.
  • Creative Passion for Audio – you love audio and you’re always thinking of ways to push the creative and technical boundaries of what is possible, aiming to create world-class audio without sacrificing runtime performance.
  • Great Communicator - you can talk about your work. You’ll be as comfortable specifying a task with sound designers as you are collaborating on a codebase shared with engineers across multiple projects.
  • Practical - you have an instinct for what level of engineering is needed, and you can work efficiently at any level. Working centrally in a studio working in multiple projects requires the ability to distinguish between an idea which requires a rapid prototype to quickly test its feasibility, or a mission-critical system which needs detailed planning and consultation across multiple teams.
  • Passion for Games - you’ve probably been playing games forever. You understand an engaging player experience and are confident reproducing it in code.

We'd be especially impressed by:

  • Experience shipping games on console or PC. Detailed knowledge of SDK and technical requirements of Sony PlayStation, Microsoft Xbox or high-end Windows PC.
  • Unreal Engine. Experience of using and extending the editor and runtime of Unreal Engine.
  • Reascript, Python and C#. Experience using scripting languages to streamline workflows.
  • A breadth of previous audio experience. Knowing how sound designers work, and audio “language” is always helpful.
